Wandering Traveler
Gordon's  Journey

From growing up in an emotionally challenging farm background, Gordon became well acquainted with the necessity of persistence. He also learned the value of establishing a sense of hope and direction and the sense of oneself as competent as a basis for identifying and achieving meaningful goals.  He came to understand the importance of tapping into the expertise of knowledgeable others, a journey that led him through hundreds of books. In working with clients and on himself, Gordon discovered that what we really want may be different than what we think we want. Similarly, he found that we can usually make meaningful changes more quickly and easily than we think.

These came together for him working as a licensed therapist when he became convinced that there must be a better, faster, less painful way to help people than the traditional strategies he had learned. Thus began the hunt for better ways to help people. As part of this, he learned strategies that were less well known or appreciated, yet often helped people make significant, meaningful changes in a comparatively brief time. Convincingly what he discovered helped him as much as it did his clients.

What Gordon learned, and continues to study, were ways to help people redesign their inner landscape of internal images, conversations, sensations and emotions in ways that reflected their deepest sense of who they were in problem contexts. As a result, he became adept at helping people rework painful aspects of their personal stories into representations of lovable, capable people with a wider array of tools with which to tackle common life challenges, including those connected to careers and goal setting where desired.

In doing this kind of work, he became very familiar, not just with people’s everyday concerns, but also life aspirations and the core longings behind those aspirations. He learned how people “tick.”

Many of these strategies easily carry over to a coaching strategy for helping people realign their futures. By helping people line up their internal landscape with their goals, he helps his clients realize valuable personal goals, often changing their relationships with themselves, with others, with their careers, and for some, even with God.

In shifting to life coaching, Gordon's goals center around helping people build clear internal roadmaps to what they want. This may include helping people.

  • clarify what they really want, personally or professionally,

  • develop a doable plan,

  • identify and utilize available resources, including those within themselves,

  • tap into their core values to empower their efforts,

  • examine to unhelpful beliefs and habits, and find alternatives,

  • manage conflict more comfortably,

  • manage stress more comfortably, and

  • increasingly become the person they want to be in the process.

Gordon values the power of good questions and NLP to elicit personal insights and help clients make key decisions leading to better futures by increasing clients’ confidence and empowering them to handle life challenges with comfort and resolve.
